Tom’s Book:  “Walking in Daniel’s Shoes”

In 2012 I wrote book about my Columbine experiences. The book is available on Amazon.com and the e-book is available from most e-book sites.

To buy a signed copy of the book, please write to me at safemauser@yahoo.com. The cost is $18 plus $5 for shipping and handling.  Payment must be by check, cash, or Venmo, as I am no longer set up to take orders by credit card.  Orders from outside the U.S. will cost much more, as the mailing cost is much higher; and it may also be difficult to arrange payment.

This photo was taken by our friend Rolland Douglas at Chapel Hill
Cemetery, where they installed crosses for all 13 victims.

The book title refers to the fact I literally wore Daniel’s shoes when I worked to honor him. The book is self-published because I didn’t want a publisher telling me what to write in order to sell more books. I wanted it to be my story, in my voice, and not sensationalized.

The book, which expands on many things in this website, covers, among other things:

  • That “horrific day” and the weeks & months afterwards
  • Life in the middle of this Columbine “earthquake”
  • The fight to change gun laws in Colorado
  • Healing in many forms
  • Our decision to adopt a child
  • Being taunted by gun activists and Harris & Klebold admirers
  • Being arrested for protesting at NRA headquarters
  • The issue of “forgiveness”
  • Our meetings with the parents of the killers
  • Finding meaning in it all
